Ways to Increase Monitor Hertz in Windows 10
Not all monitor Hertz speeds can be increased, so it is recommended to first find out your model's maximum refresh rate by looking up its specifications on the manufacturer's official website or device data sheet.
Method 1: Internal Tools
System «Parameters» Windows 10 allows you to change the monitor's hertz settings, if this involves a component:
- Open the built-in tool "Screen settings".. To do this, right-click on any free area on the desktop and, in the menu that appears, click on the appropriate option.
- In the new window, locate the line "Advanced display settings" and press.
- If two monitors are used, select display from the top menu. In the block "refreshment rate". you can expand the list of available spike options. If there is an option to set a higher refresh rate, click it.
To fine-tune the resolution-hertz ratio, you can select the button Video adapter properties button.
In a new window on the tab "Adapter". press the button «List of all modes»to find out what display options are available on the monitor.
Select the one you want and press the button. "OKAY".then you will be asked to confirm the action.
In the "Monitor". you can also select the screen refresh rate from the dropdown menu.
System Preferences only offer an acceptable screen refresh rate, so in most cases the value does not exceed 50-60 Hz. More expensive and modern models of monitors/video cards have more elements in the Hertz rate change.
Method 2: Graphics adapter software
Graphics card manufacturers offer their own software with which you can adjust the display of graphics on the screen, as well as the resolution and refresh rate. Unlike the standard Windows tools, the special utilities allow you to create your own profiles with saved settings and have additional options to customize image settings.
The most popular graphics adapter manufacturers are Intel, NVIDIA, and AMD. They each provide proprietary software that must be installed with all drivers and software for the component to work.
If you do not know which manufacturer's video card is installed in your computer or laptop, find out with the help of special software, which is described in more detail in our separate material on the website.

Option 1: Intel
Using Intel's proprietary Graphics Control Center app as an example, let's see how to increase monitor clock speed in Windows 10:
- Launch the app using the system search box.
- In the software window, click the tab "Screen"where resolution, refresh rate, rotation, zoom and other settings are available. locate the line "refreshment rate". and open the dropdown menu. If there are values higher than and different from the current one, simply select one of them and confirm the action in the box that appears.

Option 2: NVIDIA
The procedure for NVIDIA graphics cards is simple: run the proprietary NVIDIA Control utility, then from the menu "Display" menu. select item "Change resolution" and in the central part of the window, adjust the value of hertz.
How to open the NVIDIA Graphics Adapter Setup application is described in detail in the instructions on our website.

Option 3: AMD
For video cards from the manufacturer AMD, there is also a section in the proprietary utility "Screen"where not only the resolution is adjusted but also the refresh rate of the screen:
- After starting on the tab "Show". create a new custom resolution by pressing the corresponding button.
- A new window will open where you need to manually set the screen resolution and refresh rate by selecting from the available options. Once the settings are complete, click the button "Save" button..
In new versions of the software, the sequence is almost the same, the only difference is finding the correct section.
- So in the 2022 edition of Adrenalin you have to click on the gear in the right corner, switch to the tab "Show".. On the right side, find the subsection " Agreements". and click "Create new"..
- All current parameters will already be set here, including editing the element "Screen refresh rate"entering the desired figure there and pressing "Save"..
Do not enter a higher number than the monitor and video card . Doing so can cause the screen to black out and cause other problems.
Posible problems
If the monitor specifications indicate that it is possible to increase the hertz speed but the software settings do not show the desired value, then there is a problem with the cable or drivers of the device being used.
Updating video card and monitor drivers
The first thing to do is check if your video card software is up to date. If not, you can update the driver in a variety of ways, including system tools, third-party programs, or proprietary utilities from graphics card manufacturers. Our separate article describes all the ways to install the latest software.

Some modern monitors also require updated software for stable and correct operation. Our authors have been working on how to and install the driver for the models of the manufacturers that produce such software.

Insufficient bandwidth of the cable
If an HDMI or Display Port cable is used to connect the monitor and the computer, check if it is suitable. For example, a high-performance graphics card and a modern monitor with high resolution, color depth, and refresh rate are installed. For the connection, the first available HDMI cable or an old Display Port cable has been used. In this case, the bandwidth of the cable is lost and as a result there is no way to improve the display of the image on the monitor, including increasing the clock speed.
For modern and powerful devices, choose the latest version of cables. For example, HDMI 1.4a is already obsolete for these components, while 2.0a is newer. Also take into the types of cables: in the case of HDMI, choose the Ultra High Speed type, which has a wide Bandwidth that allows you to output 8K images on your monitor, and cables with data transfer speeds of up to 48 Gbit/s

Connection type check
Another reason your current monitor won't allow higher hertz is the wrong connection type. For example, the device only s the maximum resolution and refresh rate when connected to a PC via Display Port, while there are limitations on the output image quality when using an HDMI connection.
There is detailed information about it on the official website of the monitor manufacturer. Please read the recommendations carefully before selecting the type of connection.
