A review of the original iPhone 7 and Plus cases. Which to choose
I managed to buy four original cases for my latest iPhone 6s. Yes, they were more expensive than most of the others. But the quality was worth it.
I loved everything in general. The excellent finish of the microfiber back allowed me to sell my phone after a year without a single scratch or scratch on the back. These cases have saved my iPhone hundreds of times and I love them for it.
My iPhone has dropped on the screen, in the corners. On the asphalt, on the tiles, off the table and out of the car. No problem, it's like new.
So for the iPhone 7 Plus. the first thing I ordered Two original apple cases. A silicone one in the new “cocoa” color and my favorite in navy blue leather.
A week later, I share my impressions. In short, I am not very happy.
Silicone case for iPhone 7. Shoot and kill.
I like silicone cases less than leather ones. That's all, I say it in advance. Apple hasn't convinced me this year to change my mind, but they've taken a decent approach.
The biggest advantage of the silicone case is the price. It is available in stores from 2800 rubles, which, on the one hand, is not cheap, but it is still a little less than a leather one. Alternatives from other manufacturers can be found for as little as 500 rubles, but in of quality none of them will be as well thought out and ultimately safe/useful.
The colors have changed. The designers hit the mark: almost all models are bright, interesting and go well with at least one of the models.
The difference between the new silicone cases and last year's is the absence of a plastic ring around the camera cutout. After all, they managed to do without it. The solution is definitely positive, it looks much better that way.
The interior of the case is covered in microfiber up to the top edge. It is dyed to match the color of the cover; it fits very well, except that only the owner knows it and only when he puts on the cover. A small and apparently unimportant detail, but very Apple style.
Microfiber – The number one reason to buy an original iPhone case. It ensures that the rear remains in perfect condition.
The problem is simple: sooner or later dust gets under any cover. The pressure of the accessory creates friction against the case, and in the end you remove the case and find small scratches on the apple. Very often, third-party accessory manufacturers neglect this, and you end up buying a "Trojan horse" instead of protection.
There are already known cases of scratches on the matte black iPhone 7 due to the use of cheap or plastic cases from third-party manufacturers. In short, saving money on matches is not recommended.
The silicone case was originally conceived as an option for casual use. Quite simply, it's for people who are careless with their technology. With each new generation, Apple improves the design and bezel density so you can drop your device to the ground with more confidence.
Today's accessory is not essentially "silicone", but metal. This is the inside plate and the outside is already covered in "rubber" material. It is very difficult to bend the iPhone 7 Plus in this case, as well as wrinkle it when hitting the ground. It is very strong on its own, noticeably denser than the leather model.
And holding a silicone case is so much easier, it doesn't slip out of your hands like a bare iPhone or leather model does.
You might think that what more could you want from a briefcase? But the silicone model has disadvantagesand have remained unchanged for the last three years.
The briefcase collects dust wildly and shows it all the time. It's a real vacuum cleaner: put it on a clean table, pick it up, and there will be spots and crumbs. You have to clean the silicone surface with wet hands, otherwise you will only get worse and leave marks on the material.
Carrying a silicone iPhone case in your pocket is generally contraindicated: even if you surgically clean yourself a thousand times, a piece of dust and dirt will come out of your pants, which you will clean and blow to the laughter of others. And it is not so easy to get it out of the pocket, the material is “slimy”, it sticks to the fabric and constantly turns clothes inside out.
Also, name brand silicone cases tend to wear down to the shiny edges and even crumble over time. Everyone I know of has the bottom right corner of the box peeled off. It's a lot like a manufacturing defect: the pieces fall off the edges on their own after a month of use, you just have to put it on and take it off a couple of times. It's not fatal, but it will definitely kill the perfectionist.
Lastly, the silicone case is trivially thick and heavy. This is the main reason why I do not recommend it to owners of an iPhone Plus of any generation. The borders around the screen are high, the thickness is large. This type of combination really becomes a brick.
Using the Plus in a silicone case is very inconvenient, so I hastily replaced it with a leather one. Here you have to choose: either killer protection or cleanliness and comfort.
Leather case for iPhone 7. Wear it and love it.
I still don't believe it's real leather. Perhaps some kind of mixture of natural material with artificial material. Very different from other manufacturers' leather cases.
One thing is for sure, the first generation of leather cases for the iPhone 6 it was so much better. touch feeling than the updated version for iPhone 6s and the current model for iPhone 7.
just used to be softer. Now it seems that it has dried, it has become as thick as possible. The texture has become porous, uneven. Before it was like an orange, but now it's like a dried fruit 🙂
I know people like the updated stuff better, but I'll miss it too. You can't put the old covers on the normal Seven, let alone the Plus: the cameras get in the way.
I'm not going to beat around the bush: the leather case is great, I love using it and I wholeheartedly recommend one to all owners of any of the iPhone models. Enough that it's just nice to pick up. After all, it is an iPhone, a mega gadget made of noble metal and glass. Silicone is out of place, isn't it?
I have been waiting for this case because it is the first time they add metallic buttons. Before, it was just a perforated "lump." The new buttons look good, but the main thing is different. They're incredibly easy to press, give a nice crisp click, and generally take the usability of the case to a new level.
After these buttons you won't want to go back to the silicone model at all.
The leather model does not show dust, at a given moment it can be swept instantly. But it scratches very easily. VERY. In just a month, your suitcase will be covered in small scuffs and dents on the edges that you won't be able to get rid of easily.
On the old model small scratches could literally be “ironed out”. Now the material is too dense and porous. Many people like the leather case for this - it rubs over time, becomes elegant in its own way. Personally, I only see a tortured cover that would be nice to replace.
A leather case in general has many disadvantages. For example, it slips out of your hands much more easily. Especially if they are quite dry, which is a current problem due to the low temperatures. I almost dropped my iPhone 7 four times because of this.
Also, a leather case should never be bathed or come into with water. It will suck it all up and literally make bubbles and then you can throw it away. I have noticed that the new model does not have microfiber lining on the sides, unlike the silicone version. A small thing, but one that can contribute to dust streaks.
There is a specific "disadvantage" that can be discussed. Leather models have different textures: you often find creases, uneven colors, slight imperfections on the bezel. Some people like this, but I would prefer a perfectly flat box. I have one with a line running through the entire . Not very nice, in my opinion.
And the main negative point: leather covers fade in 1 year of use. The light models darken quickly, so I recommend buying them only as secondary, for special occasions. The darkest ones also darken. For example, my previous dark blue turned almost black in a year. Choose carefully.
Conclusion. So which case should I choose?
I recommend a leather case for iPhone 7 Plus and a silicone case for iPhone 7. The leather one is still much nicer and more comfortable in real life, especially when actively using the mobile phone and carrying it in your pocket. . For the black model like mine, I recommend the gray, black, navy, and red case.
The silicone one, on the other hand, is unbreakable, and it adapts remarkably better to the small iPhone than to the Plus. But the dust is distressing, and the tactile sensation is for the hobbyist. If you do not agree, write in the comments; I wonder how many silicone fans there will be among the readers.
The final result. Perfectionists and nail-biters should get a silicone one, while practical and more careful s should get a leather one. Too bad it's almost impossible to get leather cases on the free market today (especially on the 7 Plus). I bought mine at re:Store I tell you directly. I hope you are lucky too. In a pinch, you can always find a silicone one there.
Well, I'll take the leather.
